WSG Meeting In Melbourne

05 Oct 2004 11:23 PM

I decided to get my ass out of the house and go hang out with a few geeks after hearing that Doug Bowman and Dave Shea were coming to Melbourne for a WSG meeting. Got to meet some cool people like Andrew Fernandez (Dez), Cameron Adams, Peter Firminger, Dave and many others I’ve forgotten right now. I’d never met anyone before the meeting so I dragged my business partner and sister along (much to Peter’s delight) just in case things got sticky. ;)

After ploughing my way through the wall of fans, I managed to introduce myself to Doug and Dave and mentioned my site. I got a totally blank stare from both of them. They obviously never heard of Phono Phunk before (can you believe that shit?!). The only way I could pay them back for that was to take some photos which made them look really ridiculous. So here they are for your viewing pleasure.

Oh, and here is one of me (handsome guy on the left) and my business partner Andrew. Did somebody yell “TAXI"?

Fun to meet you at the WSG get together. I’m very surprised I haven’t heard about your website before ! ;-)
You got some serious spirit and energy.

I’m the (slightly taller than you) guy that your sister wrote down your url for ‘cause my hearing was being affected by the volume at 3 degrees.

Am passing on this to my work colleagues….. where….
    Swinburne Uni, Hawthorn.

Last night has given me enthusiasm to update my promotion of web standards !

and something personal, in answer to one of your FAQ’s
    “john banana tag”
well, I’ve been called joe banana, why, well that’s a food story…. go here to find out if you don’t already know
    www.murderinc.com/fam/bonn.html

and yes, my origins are Siciliano so don’t cross me
    ciao

Hey Joe Bananas! It was great to meet you man. I always admire a guy who brings a notepad and pen to the pub to take notes :) Make sure you keep in touch. I can always use a good Siciliano hit man when I get into trouble ;)

Alright, it wasn’t a totally blank stare you got from me. I had seen this site not too long ago and now remember the cool style switcher you’ve got going here. It was probably the Aussie accent that was throwing me off on the site name. Good to meet you John.

Doug, OK mate I’ll let you off this time, but the pictures are staying up! ;) I think the secret to understanding the Aussie accent is to… drink more beer. The more you drink, the clearer it becomes. All my international friends seem to agree on this. Anyway, it was cool to meet you too and I hope you enjoy your stay in Melbourne!

Hmm, no wonder I don’t get out socially with you too often…. you end up plastered all over the Internet and cop shit for having a couple of beers. I guess you better not see me on the weekend…. ;)

Andrew. No… the reason we don’t go out together socially is because I HAVE seen you on the weekend ;)

    G’day John

I didn’t get to meet you last night, but I met Andrew and he was looking for you to introduce us, but couldn’t spot you at the time. I was at WE04 and I mentioned your site to a number of folks on Friday night when we were talking about Australians doing GOOD THINGS, but I don’t think any of them had heard of it either. Still, their loss!

PS I’m the tubby biatch standing behind Dave in the blue and red

Hey Lachlan. Now that I know who you are, I’ll make sure I introduce myself next time. Sometimes trying to find me is like playing “Where’s Waldo". Small guys are hard to spot amongst the giants ;)

That’s alright, try being the dude who is wide enough that everyone bumps into him - whether he is moving or not!

So, we’ll see you at the next WSG meet then?

Lachlan, I’ll play it by ear and see how it goes. I’m more of a spur of the moment kinda guy.

Wow, ok, if they didnt know about your site, then, they certainly will now. Great way to poke fun! Awesome site by the way, seen it a few times through cssvault.com, i like the work.

I love this site too. This is one of those sites where I like the design so much, I follow the rss feed, but instead of reading the site through the feed-reader’s interface, I go to the site and read it instead. It’s that beautiful.

I also found this site first on cssvault.com and I’m amazed they didn’t remember it.
